This re-release is for those who look forward to the new tantalizing posters and the “personal” letter to the fans, but as for the rest of us? Download it. There is no doubt that this is a hot album – but so was the first release. Today (March 23) marks the 17th anniversary of the release of Usher’s fourth studio album Confessions. Usher reminisces about a one-night stand in “Red Light,” saying, “It was supposed to be/Just one night/In and out I’m out the door/So why am I sitting here/At the red light/Driving around looking for her.” At an hour in duration, it could be stripped of five songs and be far more powerful, especially since no one would have to do any wading to get to the meaty parts. The rightly titled “Seduction” is about a girl with so much sex appeal that Usher has to have her. Confessions most detracting factor is its length. Also, “My Boo,” the duet with Alicia Keys, is a regular on the radio. “Confessions Part 2 (Remix)” has Kanye West, Jermaine Dupri and Shyne spicing up the cut. The album entered right on the cusp of the social media wave and sold 10 million copies (actual CDs, not streams), bringing it to RIAA Diamond status. This special album has the same songs as the first, but has four new tracks. The talented and sexy Usher Raymond is multiplying his dollars with the special edition release of his already platinum album “Confessions.” Usher returned earlier this year to again top the charts after three years.
